This painting of my friend's daughter, Maya,was done in a richly textured impressionistic style, which feels effortless and natural for me. I followed her around with a camera, and did several sketches before finally taking brush and paint to canvas. I was eager to capture her amazingly thick, dark hair, as well as the kind look in her eyes.
